The city of Regensburg is characterized by a relaxed atmosphere, in which international students are welcomed and can feel comfortable and safe. Since July 2006, Regensburg has been awarded the UNESCO World Heritage Prize, which pays tribute to the uniqueness of the medieval city centre and its splendid architecture, in particular the ancient stone bridge over the Danube and St. Peter`s Basilica. The urban landscape of Regensburg still reflects the economic and cultural vitality and political importance of the city in the Middle Ages. Today, many international companies are headquartered in Regensburg and the city has one of the strongest economies in Germany, creating many attractive job opportunities. The University of Regensburg (UR) was founded in 1962 and is a modern campus university on the southern outskirts of a historic city dating back to the Middle Ages. The UR offers an excellent atmosphere for academic excellence, with excellent coaching and services, especially for international students. As a research university, UR offers not only bachelor`s programs, but also a wide range of master`s and doctoral degrees.

The current number of university students is about 20,000 with about 1,570 international students. The University of Regensburg also offers a number of international programs that are taught in English. The apprenticeship agreement you submit with your application is reviewed by the international office in collaboration with the department coordinators and signed by Christine Betzner (Erasmus coordinator for exchange students). Originally conceived as a regional university, it has become a renowned teaching and research centre with a strong tradition of international cooperation. About 21,600 students are currently enrolled at the University of Regensburg, including 1,640 international students (stand Winters semester 2015/16). Changes to the apprenticeship agreement are signed by the department coordinators (the list is available at Ms. Betzner`s office 0.23A). Christine Betzner or Katharina Schmaus will sign the apprenticeship contract. The EC is an international university that has agreements with about 325 universities in other countries. Each year, the UR welcomes about 300 invited scientists and 570 exchange students from around the world. Because of its geographical location, the university has always considered itself a bridge between East and West and has therefore concluded several cooperation agreements aimed at a broad exchange of research and teaching.

Due to the fact that LE is a campus university, students have short walks between the various buildings and institutions of the university. Excellent bus connections to the university and within the city limits make life in Regensburg very comfortable. Students will find a vibrant cultural life on campus with more than 20 theatrical groups and several choirs and orchestras. As far as activities are concerned, it is also worth mentioning the university sports centre. Each semester, there is a wide range of courses offered, from A as in aerobics to Y as in yoga. Although Maria Grotz is the Erasmus institutional coordinator at the University of Regensburg, your main contact and advisor is Christine Betzner.
